Requirements
- Blender 4.5+ — download from blender.org
- Character DNA addon — installed and enabled (GitHub)
- Rigify — enabled in Edit > Preferences > Add-ons
Install the Addon
Extension Manager: Edit > Preferences > Get Extensions → search "Character Control Rig" → Install.
From ZIP: Edit > Preferences > Add-ons → Install from Disk → select the .zip from the
releases page.
Verify by pressing N in a 3D Viewport and looking for the Character Control Rig sidebar tab.
Your First Control Rig
- Import a MetaHuman character via Character DNA
- Open the Character Control Rig sidebar tab
- Select a rig instance from the list
- Click Generate Metarig — the addon snaps a Rigify metarig to the source skeleton
- (Optional) Adjust bone positions in Edit Mode
- Click Generate Control Rig — produces the final rig and constrains it to the source skeleton
- Switch to Pose Mode and animate
Exporting
- Body animation → Animation panel > Body FK Animation > Export (FBX, Unreal-ready)
- Face board → Animation panel > Face Board > Export (FBX, flat hierarchy)
Cleaning Up
Select the rig instance → click Remove Control Rig. This removes the control rig, constraints, and widgets.
